Overview
I am Michał Kowalewski, a third-year PhD student at the AGH Doctoral School. I began my doctoral studies in 2023 under the supervision of Piotr Oprocha and expect to complete my thesis in 2027.
I also completed my undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Mathematics at AGH University, graduating with honors in 2023. That same year, my Master’s thesis was awarded first prize in the "Diamonds of AGH" competition for the university's best Master's thesis.
My research is focused on topological dynamics, specifically the relationship between the topological structure of a space and the dynamical phenomena that can occur on it.
Research Statement
I'm interested in topology and (discrete) dynamical systems - i.e. pairs of a space and a map acting on it. I mostly work with topological dynamical systems, where the space is a compact metric space and the map is continuous. I am especially interested in how the topological properties of a space determine the types of dynamics it can admit.
Academic Service
Alongside my research, I am active in doctoral self-government at AGH. At the AGH Doctoral Candidates' Council I served the following roles:
- Vice-Chairman (Jan 2026 – Present)
- Board Member for Project Logistics (2025)
- Chairperson's Representative for PBS Meetings (2024)
Since January 2026 I am also the representative of doctoral candidates at the AGH Senate, Senate Comitee for Science and Senate Committee for Statutes and Regulations.
